OUR CAMPAIGNS

why campaign against torture?

At ACAT-UK we campaign on behalf of victims of torture, the disappeared, and those at risk of execution. Every issue of our quarterly newsletter contains details of appeals for named individuals, with sample letters addressed to the authorities in their country (usually copied to the relevant ambassador in the UK), giving the background to their case and requesting that the prisoner be allowed access to a lawyer, doctor, and members of their family.

The newsletters which are sent out to our members ahead of Easter and Christmas contain many names of individuals and organisations who would appreciate a greetings card at those times. We always specify if it would be safer for the prisoner to mail a non-religious card, but others may be especially pleased to receive a card with a Christian message.

Campaigning against the death penalty worldwide.

There are occasions when a swift response by letter can save a prisoner from torture and even death.

Cards and messages of support can bring hope to those suffering torture, imprisonment or persecution because of their faith or their work as Human Rights defenders.

Sunday 25th June 2017 was the last Vigil. This is part of our ‘Powerhouse of Prayer’. For details of the 2017 vigil click here
